Weekendage

Well, Oxford term cometh anew which means I'm back to my usual termtime routine of dash home on Friday, attempt to deal with all domestic business (fail) and catch up on sleep (ha, funny), then zoom up to Oxf on Saturday to potter around with the scums.

Everybody's moved again: Her new house is ever so lovely and I'm thoroughly jealous, in an old and light and slightly creaky and entirely non-dinky-little-penthousette kind of way. His new flat looks like it's been possessed by the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo, but there are terribly ambitious and tasteful plans in the offing and I suspect it'll end up looking fantastic. Also, I can discuss kitchen planning with him and not get beaten to death, which is a nice plus. Her new place is in a small kind of castle and awfully shiny, despite the fact that the moat consists of the Isis, a large number of psychotic ducks and an estate I wouldn't particularly fancy late at night.

So I've been hanging around, things and stuff. We went to see Serenity, which was excellent and has only encouraged my already-growing obsession with Firefly. Have now finished my birthday books, which consisted largely of Thud! (v good in Pratchett's occasional ouch-it-hurts style), Freakonomics (patchy, but the bit on the Ku Klux Klan was classic), and Lucifer's Hammer (we're ALL GONNA DIE! ^________^) Now herself has got me reading The Winter Queen and downloading strange movies in Russian, which wouldn't normally be my cup of tea at all, but as long as they keep the Lord Byron corset jokes coming I'm thoroughly enjoying it. (plus, the first one takes about an hour to read, which helps when you have the attention span of a particularly hyperactive mayfly) ^_^

ALL MUST LOVE ERAST PETROVICH FANDORIN. IT IS THE LAW.

*pines for the books that haven't been translated yet* What, Akunin can *write* them at the rate of about two a year, but they can't find someone to *translate* them at the same pace? *scowls*

Now I just need to work out how I can write some Erast / Hippolyte fic while still maintaining any sense of artistic integrity or self-esteem, and then I shall be happy.
