Posing with Peers

I had breakfast with a lord this morning ^_^ Baron Ouseley of Peckham Rye, to be precise, which may be the best title for any peer ever and sounds like the bastard child of Neverwhere and Redwall.

And he was very nice. Bit of a cockney wideboy actually, which pleased me immensely - gave the impression that he'd be out running a slightly dodgy garage or something if someone hadn't given him a great haircut and shoved him into a particularly good suit. Oh, and appointed him the first black Chief Exec of a London borough, Chairman of the CRE, or founder of the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign, plus about a million other things. It was all part of Black History Month - our employee network for black & Asian employees had invited him in and I got the in because I do stuff for two of the sister networks, the women's one and the volunteering one.

'Twas interesting too. He used to be one of Ken's guys at the GLC, which endeared him to me immediately, and I managed to provoke him into having a right go at the New Labour 'light touch with the private sector' CRE :-D Cos what racism in the workplace really needs is a light touch. Yes.
