Embarking on a Life of Crime in Four Easy Steps
1. Go to London Art Fair. Fall for beautiful stripey painting which I cannot possibly afford. Go home and angst about it.
2. Find photo of beautiful stripey painting on internet. Spend two hours painstakingly copying it in MS Paint (to keep the colours pure, y'know). Blow it up into hyper-super-ultra-resolution in Photoshop.
3. Send piccie to cheapo German giclee canvas printing house. Wait two weeks.
4. Receive bee-yootiful stripey canvas. Party.
I'm going to jail. But I'm taking my stripey picture with me. ^________^
What I want to know is - is what I've done actually illegal? I'm not claiming that it's the original. It doesn't bear the artist's signature. Looking at it up close, you couldn't possibly confuse my flat printed canvas with the artist's 3-D gloss stripes. I'm not going to make any more copies or try to sell the one I've got. So how much trouble am I in?
The annoying thing is, on Thursday I spent eight hours in a room with a corporate lawyer so expensive he makes my boss raise his eyebrows, who happens to be a specialist in intellectual property rights, but sadly I didn't find the opportunity to ask him. Ho-hum.

It looks like a paint sample or something! Sorry- I just don't seem to get it. As to trouble- you might be in less if you didn't announce it to the world. I recal a CUAG friend who deliberately travelled on trains without tickets, made it without getting caught and announced her misdemenor on line. The criminal seems to need to baost:)

I have no idea about the legality of it all, but I feel I need to POINT AND LAUGH about the fact that your sitting room now looks just like those catalogues you were waving around during your sofa hunt. Exactly. Like. *points and laughs*
Throw some sort of non-matching cushion or a bit of clutter in there before you find random people wandering around thinking it's a showroom! :D
(The stripey painting does look very nice on your wall.)

*grins* I didn't want to boast about the crime, but I have to admit I was nearly proud of the lateral thinking. I mean, who else goes 'want > can't have > FORGERY!'
*dies laughing* Helen, there is nothing you could have said that would have made me happier ^________________^
