Why does everyone I know get the ocelot?

Nor read the books but there wasn't one with the title of goldern compass unless my memory is waging psywarfare on me. Anyone able to explain. If the answer is US audiences I will be most unsurprised.

It is US audiences, I'm afraid - the film is Northern Lights, but apparently Americans don't know what those are :-s
