'In patriotic green and orange he goes back to fighting crime...'
Speaking personally, I think that the Post-Ironic Irony Front just don't have a sense of irony. Well, isn't that ironic.
....
...oh, shut up. I've been straining my eyes with picture editing for the last several hours, and now I have paisley dancing before my eyes. This is what happens when you try to work with Gankutsuou pictures. Especially Franz pictures. sodding...paisley. @_@
But! I made a wallpaper! Except I'm not quite sure it's right yet, and no one's online to give me an opinion :( This is what I get for keeping faintly nocturnal hours lately. Except that - I have two friends in Japan! That should mean that keeping nocturnal hours makes no difference to how many of my friends are online! Stupid work. I'd upload it to here, only my FTP program has been playing silly buggers lately (probably because no one in this house has much of a clue about routers and network settings, which probably means something's blocking something. Ugh, I hate not being techy enough sometimes) so I can't. So all you horrible people who aren't online at 1.30am will have to wait until I next deign to come online to see its incomparable beauty :P
It's also in the dumbest resolution evar ^_^ Because my shiny new laptop has, for reasons best known to Dell, a screen of resolution 1280x800. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, as the young folks say. Means I have to make a whole new set of wallpapers. Woot.
So...yes. Going to Athens on Sunday morning. That's kinda alarming. I am faintly disturbed by the whole concept, to be honest. Despite my usual attitude of 'home is wherever you hang your hat', by 'hat' I usually mean 'my computer and books and comics and DVDs and internet connection.' If I can set myself up a suitable base, then I consider most places as 'home' quite quickly. Going abroad normally doesn't work like that, because I can't set up the base safety area - I tend to feel faintly vulnerable all the time I'm away. Which makes the prospect of going away to a country where I don't speak a *word* of the language for eight weeks faintly alarming.
*sighs* I'm sure I'll be fine when I get there. More or less sure. *prays fervently for some form of internet access that isn't an internet cafe. I hate internet cafes. Relying on internet cafes for net access provokes a similar sense of vulnerability to being on holiday.*
As a result of this sense of slightly unnerved diffidence I have been burying my head in the metaphorical sand about this trip somewhat ^_^;;; Still haven't got myself anything like an international phone card, which I was intending to do. Have started sorting out some clothes in a slightly desultary fashion. Haven't done any background reading, though I probably ought to have done. Only sorted out my notes from last term yesterday. I have had a very pleasant Christmas, largely by dint of entirely ignoring the impending Abroad. Eheh.
And yes, I know this is a great opportunity, and it may well be a fascinating and inspiring experience, and may well be jolly good fun too; it still inspires that First Day At School feeling. Bah.
In more chipper mode - Superhero radio! Is the way forward. I am currently *very* addicted to The Ballad of Barry Allen by Jim's Big Ego (which is totally a Wally song really, but we can't argue: 'now I've got to try to be so patient / until calamity will strike, / because when things change in an instant / it's almost fast enough for me'), as well as anything about Aquaman. Aquaman songs *all* rock. It's a universal rule. Because you only sing about Aquaman a) if you're a dorky comic book fan, and b) if you're the sort of band who *know* you're composed largely of losers. Which covers most of my favourite sorts of music ^_^
Classic Aquaman moments include: Craig Marshall 'If I had you / I could reach the land, / If I had you / I could be Aquaman.' (And how precisely would that be a good thing?); eg2. Ookla the Mok 'All the other members of the Justice League / Say I have useless super powers and make fun of me / But I know that there will come a day / When they're gonna stare in slack jawed wonder as they hear me say: / I am Aquaman and nobody better mess with me.' (Rock on, Arthur. He also makes snide remarks about Bruce and Dick's 'special relationship' in the course of the song.); eg3. The Social Bedders 'And if God came down upon me and gave me a wish again, / I'd wish to be like Aquaman 'cause Aquaman can take the pain' (Awesome. Fuckin' awesome ^__^)
My superhero radio channel also plays the Italian opening to a Batman cartoon that I will *not* believe is The Animated Series, even though it seems to be from the 90s, as it's just so....peppy. It's the cries of 'fortissimo e justissimo!' in the chorus that truly make it. There are, however, entirely too many Wonder Woman Disco Remixes in the world. Well, one would be too many for me, but there are *dozens*.
...have I filled my blogging quota yet, nee-sama?

I was online! I gave you comments!
I'm sure Athens will be fine. Just pack enough non-work books and things to write on to keep yourself happy when you've had enough of work and you'll be fine.
Also make sure we know your address. *wags finger*

I s'pose that'll do. I don't really want to be looking for pictures of girl Taebris anyway, not as opposed to, say, beating myself to death with a brussels sprout tree.
