Fandom meme

And so, not having blogged in a month despite being in a fascinating country and doing fascinating things, I now have a presentation to work on, and have decided to blog a meme.

Man, don't you just love how the brain works?

'1. Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life
2. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each item.
3. Post in your own journal.'

'Course, the problem is with this meme is that when I fannishly obsess over something, I do so *very* vocally, so *all* my friends are going to be able to get the answers to these :D Oh well.

1. Mary Poppins. (Totally my first obsession at the age of, what, six. Go me.) Mary Poppins - Tasha. Yes, I totally worshipped Julie Andrews in this. It was a combination of the outfit in the chalk-picture section and 'Feed the Birds'.
2. Buffy Giles - Tasha. Keep an eye on the socially ill-adjusted over-intelligent characters, folks...
3. Blakes 7 Avon - Tasha.
4. Gundam Wing. Treize - Ruth
5. Stargate SG-1 - Danny - Tasha. *snuggles Danny* it's the floppy hair and the glasses and the *snark.* Oh, and the socially ill-adjusted over-intelligent-ness, natch.
6. Classic detective novels. Lord Peter Wimsey - Ruth.
7. DC Comics (...okay, there are a couple of characters I just *can't* choose between here, I'll give credit for either.) Jay - Tasha
8. Dark is Rising sequence Will - Tasha. And I don't care that Ivan thinks he's a cryptofascist. *huggles*
9. Chronicles of Narnia. Edmund - Tasha. Though I was sore tempted by Eustace. And Caspian. And Tyrian.
10. Greek mythology. Nyah. Let's have one god, one mortal here. God: Hermes - Katy.
11. Squenix-type games. Laguna - Katy. Okay, so I'll admit it's not *just* intelligence that wins my favourite-character status ^_^ A healthy dose of idiocy often does just as well.
12. Good Omens. Aziraphale - Tasha. All the *right* reasons, thank you. ie. socially ill-adjusted and over-intelligent.
13. Discworld. The Patrician - Tasha. It was the juggling scene in Jingo that did it.
14. Sandman
15. Doctor Who. Eighth - Katy.
16. Lord of the Rings. Merry - Ruth.

And I think that'll do. Mostly astoundingly obvious, first come first credited for correct answers ^_^

(I'm still working on The Blog Post Of Gay Greek Gods. One to look forward to.)

(Oh - and congratulations to everyone who got that the last title was a Beast Boy quotation. But really, who else could it have been?)

Comments

Oh god ^_^ Right, I'm first!

1. Crap, does this involve having to know characters from Mary Poppins??? ...Mary.
2. Giles, weirdo :-p
3. ...Avon, presumably, though I thought that was more of a combination ^_^
4. Anyone who doesn't get Zechs is not paying sufficient attention.
5. HE'S NOT AS GOOD AS JAMES SPADER IN THE FILM.
6. Er. Harriet Vane? or Lord Peter? If I have to plump I'll go for Harriet... no I won't.
7. I'll go for Jay, cos I'm not getting into your frankly weird Aquaman thing :-p
8. Will, and have you heard Ivan's opinion of him? It made me nearly wet myself laughing cos it's SO TRUE ^_____^
9. Edmund, the little nutjob.
10. Mmm. Apollo? Antinous.
11. ...I think I'll leave this one to Katy.
12. Aziraphale. For all the wrong reasons.
13. The Patrician, on current record ^_^
14. Daniel
15. Some young male companion who I don't think I ever registered the name of ^_^;;;
16. Sam, but only if he's voiced by Bill Nighy.

So nyah. I'd follow up the meme, but I think I'd just freak people out... ^_^;;;

Your correct answers have been posted, allow me some commentary:

>3. ...Avon, presumably, though I thought that was more of a combination ^_^

Well, more that I learned to like Blake through my extreme love for Avon ^____^

>4. Anyone who doesn't get Zechs is not paying sufficient attention.

Ha! 50/50 odds, and you plumped for the wrong one :P I'll admit, Zechs was my favourite when I first watched, but writing fic made me appreciate the other half of the equation rather more. (Well, at least in my supremely OOC and fannish interpretation of him, anyway ^_^;;;)

>5. HE'S NOT AS GOOD AS JAMES SPADER IN THE FILM.

YES HE IS HE IS BETTER AND CUTER AND MORE USEFUL AND HAS LESS ANNOYING ALLERGIES AND BETTER HAIR you smell.

>6. Er. Harriet Vane? or Lord Peter? If I have to plump I'll go for Harriet... no I won't.

Points deducted for vacillating :P

>7. I'll go for Jay, cos I'm not getting into your frankly weird Aquaman thing :-p

Shut face wench. I don't think even I would choose an Aquaman character as a *favourite*, though Garth tries his best. So you get one, and there's another one still up for grabs.

>9. Edmund, the little nutjob.

That's MISTER little nutjob to you.

>10. Mmm. Apollo? Antinous.

Nope and nope. Oooh, controversial.

>14. Daniel

On grounds of socially ill-adjusted and intelligence, you'd think so, wouldn't you? Maybe it's just that we never got to know him well enough.

>15. Some young male companion who I don't think I ever registered the name of ^_^;;;

Always nice to know that you pay attention when I'm rambling :P And though I know who you're thinking about, no, he's probably not *quite* my favourite any more. Even though he was for years, much to my eternal shame.

>16. Sam, but only if he's voiced by Bill Nighy.

*laaaughs* Again, you tap into my nine-year-old taste. Sam was indeed my favourite for a long time (but only if voiced by Bill Nighy), but he got gradually edged out a few years back. Just...not by the version of this character in the films. Not right.

10. Hermes, for the cow thieving and Apollo-confusing?
11. Laguna.
14. Dream?
15. *thinks very hard* Fitz?

Oooh, some nice tries ^_^

>10. Hermes, for the cow thieving and Apollo-confusing?

Right, and very properly put too, as those are almost precisely the reasons I love Hermes ^___^ Anyone who can confuse dear Apollo as much as Hermes does in my head has *got* to be a winner. Also, he's the only god I can imagine having a sense of humour that isn't fundamentally aggressive and slightly unpleasant.

There's still my-favourite-mortal-in-Greek-myth up for grabs ^_^

>13. Laguna.

Natch. *snuggles His Useless-ness.*

>14. Dream?

Nice try. I do love Dream very much, but he's not quite my favourite ^_^

>15. *thinks very hard* Fitz?

Oooh, good effort, and you're so close you can taste it.

15. Your common or garden The Eighth Doctor?

>15. Your common or garden The Eighth Doctor?

sonotoori!

I'll have go- gotta be more interesting than herd health plans...
4) Treize (Rather a giveaway after your reply to Tasha but I would have got it anyway (honest!)
6) Lord Peter.
14)The Corinthian??
16)Merry.

Oooh, fine answers!

>4) Treize

^________^ Natch. Bless his Excellency. I'll admit, the version in my head doesn't really match the version on screen too well any more, but my good will extends to both.

>6) Lord Peter.

Quite right ^_^

14)The Corinthian??

Ooooh, a very fine choice! Especially the second Corinthian, who is one of my pets. But I'm afraid not.

>16)Merry.

^____^ Well done! It was the first time I reread LotR and noticed just what a sarcastic little bastard Merry is that I grew to love him. If I were going to be a hobbit, I'd definitely want to be a Brandybuck. Also, he and Pippin are the best thing ever. I just wish they hadn't been screwed over so much in the film. Because I love Billy Boyd and Dominic Monahan very much, but they were used far too much as a comic turn for my taste. They got some lovely moments (notably scrapping with Boromir just before Moria and being ohsogay for each other in Rohan), but rather too much broad we-are-comedy-yokals stuff for my taste.
