Hilary 2002Hilary term sees the continuation of the Nadesico, the Utena Black Rose saga and our society fansubs of Child's Toy.Additionally we're showing Yami no Matsuei, the hallucinogenic Serial Experiments Lain and some top mecha action with Macross Plus. Once again we thank Zettai Unmei Anime, the subtitling house run by 2001's President Ian Roberts, for much of our programme. We're also running an Evathon this term. All 26 episodes, including the 4 special Japanese released directors' cut episodes 21-24, Death(true)2, End of Eva and Eva - After the End. The dates for your diary are th 3rd and 10th of February, meeting in the usual location. Martian Successor Nadesico The Nadesico, final hope for Earth's people and staffed by a load of mecha obsessed Otaku. Comedy and retro mecha action shown from the ADV DVD release. Utena (Black Rose Saga) Continuing on the Utena shown last term, this arc resolves around the mysterious Black Rose Society and is, unsurprisingly, somewhat surreal. The DVDs for this part of the series have not been released commercially in the West so we thank Zettai Unmei Anime for these ultra-high quality fansubs from the Japanese LDs. Kodomo no Omacha [starting Episode 36] Quite simply one of the most brilliant anime ever, Kodacha stars Sana-chan the hyperactive actress schoolgirl as she copes with the difficult process of growing up. Fansubbed and translated by Zettai Unmei Anime from the Japanese DVDs we think that these episodes have never previously been seen subtitled in English. You saw it here first! Kodacha Anime (the guys behind the popular KnO fansubs) are now using the OAV/ZUA scripts for their next fansubbed KnO releases so even if you're not around Oxford you should be able to enjoy these episodes in the near future. Serial Experiments Lain Schoolgirls are suiciding and sending email from beyond the grave. A shadowy group called the `Knights' are involved. Is the Wired is defining the afterlife? A visual treat, Lain demostrates how computer graphics can be very effectively used in anime without looking incongruous. This 13 episode series provides a great example of the originality that keeps the medium fresh. Whilst the Japanese DVDs have English subtitles from episode 2 onwards, the subs do not work well for TV viewing so Zettai Unmei Anime are providing fansubs for this series as well. Yami no Matsuei Random bishounen style undead blokes in an office.
