Michaelmas 2001We're running a number of series and OAV series throughout Michaelmas and the new academic year. Much of the programme is thanks to Zettai Unmei Anime, the subtitling house run by 2001's President, Ian Roberts.Other events we hope to run include a karaoke evening and a games night, featuring Dance Dance Revolution and on-the-fly translation of Japanese renai (dating) games. Martian Successor Nadescio The Nadescio, final hope for Earth's people and staffed by a load of mecha obsessed Otaku. Comedy and retro mecha action shown from the ADV DVD release (purchased from Australia). Utena (Black Rose Saga) Continuing on the Utena shown last term, this arc resolves around the mysterious Black Rose Society and is, unsurprisingly, somewhat surreal. The DVDs for this part of the series have not been released commercially in the West so we thank Zettai Unmei Anime for these ultra-high quality fansubs from the Japanese LDs. Kodomo no Omacha [starting Episode 36] Quite simply one of the most brilliant anime ever, Kodacha stars Sana-chan the hyperactive actress schoolgirl as she copes with the difficult process of growing up. Fansubbed and translated by Zettai Unmei Anime from the Japanese DVDs we think that these episodes have never previously been seen subtitled in English. You saw it here first! FLCL Gainax's latest piece of truly masterful insanity, flcl breaks new ground with its stunning fully digital cel-style animation. One of the best anime ever, so good, in fact, that this is the second consecutive term it's been shown at OAV. Whilst the Japanese DVDs have English subtitles from episode 2 onwards, the subs do not work well for TV viewing so Zettai Unmei Anime are providing fansubs for this series as well. Gunbuster: Top o narae! The first OAV series from the peerless Studio Gainax, Gunbuster remains at the top of many fan's favourite anime lists and is generally regarded as the series which makes most otaku cry. Suffering a poor quality, cut-for-PG, DVD release in England, the copy shown at OAV is fansubbed (by yours truly) from the Japanese LDs by way of a Hong Kong DVD.
