:::[ Fujimiya Aya (Ran) ]::: | ||||

Background: Son of a respected banker, he seems to have led a happy life with his parents and younger sister Aya-chan, until on the day before Aya's sixteenth birthday his house was blown up by people working for Takatori Reiji, who wanted to cover up his own banking frauds by framing Fujimiya senior. Both their parents were killed, and when Ran and Aya escaped, Aya was knocked down by Takatori's car and ended up in a coma. In the anime, Ran then takes his sister's name and puts on one of the earrings he was giving her for her birthday, and vows to avenge her - and joins Weiss. (In the manga, Aya-chan was apparently injured in an explosion at their parents' bank, which was engineered by Schuldig).
The manga and audio dramas give a slightly different version of how Aya came to be in Weiss: Birman gave him a choice of either joining Kritiker or dying. He spent some time training under Shion, and then spent some time with another Kritiker group, Crashers, before joining up with Weiss. In the manga, Ken seems to have beaten him up when he first joined Weiss, which then led to the infamous 'naming scene': Yohji puts the unconscious Ran to bed, and hears him muttering the name Aya. When Ran wakes up and refuses to tell them his name, they decide just to call him Aya instead. He is the newest member of Weiss, though in many ways the leader. Character: As the official profile puts it: 'Aya is a man who has abandoned his smile'. He's silent and morose for the great majority of the time, except when something to do with the Takatori family crops up - at which point he tends to go straight into cold rage. His kinder emotions only seem to surface with regard to his sister Aya-chan, and Sakura, his sister substitute.
